To get away from the big and thriving city of Hollywood was a must. At least, once in a while. Sometimes it was all just too much for this young blue-eyed gal. Her name was Rosalie, but she often just offered the nickname Rose because it was simpler and easier to remember. Today there was nothing but sun, hot and flaming yellow in the sky, burning everyone spending their time out and about. Rosalie had made the decision as soon as she looked out her bedroom window, stepped outside for a minute, got ready and changed that she was making a visit to the boardwalk. There was always lots of stuff there like hotdog stands with chocolate covered bananas and strawberries, other restaurants, bike shops, and tacky stores where they sold most of the Hollywood souvenirs for crazy tourists.
So now the young lady stepped out of her car, shutting the door and locking it. A bright smile showed upon her face as she walked along the boardwalk, flip-flops thwacking away at her heels. It was surprisingly bustling with tourists with their small kids in strollers and riding around on bikes with training wheels, baskets, and flags sticking up in the air. She giggled a tad at the sight of this, covering her mouth with her hand to attempt at silencing herself. It reminded her of her little pink tricycle she had when she was younger with the white wheels and the matching pink and purple helmet.
Rose was craving some fair food, which lucky for her, they had here. She looked at all the shops as she passed by, waiting to see something that caught her attention. She was looking for the stands that held corn on a cob on a stick, chocolate covered bananas, hotdogs, corn dogs, chili, all that good stuff. Finally she saw it and quickly stumbled over toward it. She could smell the wonderful aroma of all the yummy foods and couldn't wait to get there.
Standing in line, she moved up space after space as the line shrunk fast. Everyone walked away with either a hotdog or cheese curds and mostly sodas. When it was her turn, she was still sort of undecided but quickly made up her mind. "Uh, I'll have a medium coke and some cheese curds." "Will that be all?" the guy behind the counter asked in a monotone voice. "Yeah, thanks," she answered. She almost wanted to say 'No, wait I want one of those chocolate covered bananas!' but she didn't want to look like a pig. He mumbled the total amount to her and she dug into her bag to find her wallet and whipped out the cash and slid it into his hand. Then he went further into the shack and returned with her order. "Thank you." The guy just nodded. Rosalie grabbed her food and drink and carried it over to a nearby table with an umbrella and sat down. She glanced back at the young man behind the counter at the food stand and felt a little bad for him; he had to sit in there asking for orders and working while everyone else his age is out and about on this lovely Hollywood day. Poor boy.

(I made Reese already know Rose. It just seemed easier that way. Hope you don't mind!) It was a good morning. A nice, fresh, warm kind of morning that Reese had been craving for some time now. It wasn't in her to stay at home today; she had to get out and do something. The beach was no good because her suit was in the wash. The mall involved inside activities and that just wouldn't cut it. Reese sat on her bed for a moment, the sunlight pouring through the window behind her when the thought struck her mind. Boardwalk! There was always something fun to do there. Always friends, always food, always excitement! Reese laughed and nodded, jumping up and rushing to her closet for something very cute to wear. The boardwalk, though for fun and entertainment, was also where she made many of her fashion statements.
You could always tell who the true Californians were when you walked out there. Tourists would have all their kids and Disney Land shirts, not to mention Sea World and Zoo things that they got when they took trips to San Diego. But then you had the surfer boys who were walking shirtless with their boards. And the Valley Girls with their giant cliques surrounding them. The true California people who wore jeans even when it was a hundred degrees outside with their long blonde hair and tan skin. And although Reese was the farthest thing from tan, she was all Cali. Even for living there such a short time, it just rubbed off on her and she had to show it.
After driving down to the boardwalk, she wandered aimlessly around. The smell of fresh sea salt and fair food mixing was amazing to her. She missed the smell of the fair and couldn't wait until it came to town. But she also missed the smell of the sea since she hadn't been to the beach in a week or so. It was great to have both at her disposal. And now, she was craving funnel cakes. Reese glanced around and looked for any friends that she had around here. Unfortunately, the place was so crowded with little kids and their families, here for the summer, that Reese couldn't locate a friend to save her life. So, she would go and get some fair food, eat it, and then head out to find someone to be entertained by.
Reese wandered up to a nice looking shack where she knew they were bound to have her delicious, and well sought after, treat. Once she got to the front of the line, which was quick and painless, (not like at the pizza shop a few days ago) Reese got ready to order. The kid behind the counter looked bored and slightly hot tempered, so Reese made her decision fast and final.
"A funnel cake with extra powdered sugar and a sweet tea," Reese nodded. She missed sweet tea and had to order it, even when the sodas were tempting her. The boy asked if there was anything else she wanted and with a shake of her head, he was off to get her food. It was back within seconds and Reese, who didn't want to make the boy look further upset, had her money ready and waiting when he returned. Paying him, and mentioning that he could keep the change, Reese turned and surveyed the spot for a place to sit. It was not going to be fun if she had to stand up and snack on this.
Spotting a familiar head of dark hair sitting under an umbrella at a table, Reese moved swiftly and quietly. Good thing she had worn her Vans, otherwise Rose, one of her best friends, would have heard her sneaking up on her. Once she was about a foot away from her, Reese bent over and whispered in her ear. "Hey pretty lady. Wanna give me a tour of your bedroom tonight?" Reese said in a deep fake man voice. Then she laughed and jerked herself back, waiting for Rose's response. It was going to be a good day.

Rosalie sipped at her drink and snacked on her yummy cheese curds. It was all delicious and she was glad she got it. The wind started blowing in her face, whipping her hair back and moving the umbrella a little bit. It wasn't a super strong wind and it died down quickly. She sat at the table alone and watched all the strangers walk around. She tried to see if she recognized anyone, but didn't see anybody that looked very familiar to her.
Still eating her cheese curds, although, they were almost gone, maybe about five left tops, she fidgeted, re-situating herself and scanning the boardwalk to see if she saw anybody. She thought the blond girl at the stand she had gone to looked sort of familiar but she wasn't sure because she couldn't see her face. She was almost positive it was her friend Reese though, but maybe not. She took a drink of her coke and the popped a cheese curd in her mouth. Her knee bobbed up and down because she was sick of sitting still.
Once she finished off her snack, she stood up and carried the garbage to the trash can and then walked back over to the table she had been sitting at and slowly sipped at her soda. It was nice and cool down her throat, something very soothing on a hot day. She swung her legs over the seat and sat back down, propping her elbows on the table after she set her coke down. She examined all the scratches and drawings inscribed on the table as watching people got to be boring to her.
Suddenly, she heard a deep voice whisper in her ear. "Hey pretty lady. Wanna give me a tour of your bedroom tonight?" Rose just about jumped but instead turned around, about to give the stranger crap to find her good friend Reese. "Oh!" She smiled and laughed. "I thought that was you up at the stand that I saw. What brings you here?" she asked her friend. "Sit, sit," she commanded her, almost forcing her down on the bench herself. She leaned on the table and folded her arms over her chest as she waited for her friend to speak. She was glad to have a friend with now, thankful. Mostly because she was getting bored being by herself and watching tourists walking around and scolding their kids wasn't too much fun and she lost interest in it quickly.

Reese gave a small laugh after she startled her good friend Rose half to death. It was fun to randomly sneak up on people, just for the rush of the torture and the quick and fun response. Reese always tried to keep things light and silly, and she normally did it very well. She nodded to Rose, who was seemingly enjoying the joke just as much as Reese was.
"I think I'm one of the many people who has platinum colored hair though. I'm shocked that you would figure it was me," Reese laughed. It was true; every girl in Hollywood seemed to have bleached or platinum hair. Reese thought it was funny that the only color that fit her personality was the only color girls in Hollywood decided to be. She glanced around. Her analysis was very true. Half of the girls on the boardwalk were bright blondes, but most of them had their hair up. There was something about Hollywood and ponytails that went so well together. Reese loved it.
Reese held up her funnel cake. "It's the only place I can get fair food year round," she replied to Rose's question. Reese loved the fair and since it didn't come til the fall, she figured that the boardwalk was the next best thing. She just wished that there were rides and carnies around too, just for the feel of an actual fair. Even though Reese hated big rides, the atmosphere was alluring and she loved the sense of adventure. As she had figured earlier, the boardwalk was the closest to that.
After being commanded to sit down, Reese nodded and put her food down on the table slowly, next placing her sweet tea next to it. She hadn't had barely any of the drink, so after she herself was securly plopped down on the bench, Reese took a long sip of tea. Then she glanced over at Rose and smiled. "I love how demanding you can be," Reese laughed, trying to still keep things light as she normally enjoyed them to be.
Her blue eyes scanned out along the boardwalk, still surveying the many people. As her eyes crossed the stand, she thought of the poor teenage boy behind it. "Don't you feel bad for that kid back there? Having to be bored out of his mind while eveyrone else has a great time? I think someone ought to entertain him," Reese sighed, not exactly meaning the two of them in particular, but hoping that someone would come along and let the kid off his leash.

"Well I would hope I could pick you out of all these blonds here. You're my friend," she said to Reese. She had a point though. There were so many girls with bleach blond hair and most of them were most likely dyed. Rosalie was satisfied with her jet black hair. It was kind of funny to look around and see that most of the girls were blonds. As this was confirmed, she said, "But I can see your point." Rose smiled and giggled a little. Then she reached over for a cheese curd and popped one into her mouth. They were so delicious, she couldn't believe it. She felt like she hadn't eaten a cheese curd in forever. "Oh my gosh! These are so good, you should try one!" she exclaimed, picking up the container that held the cheese curds and offering for Reese to take one. "I swear, I think you'll be amazed." She laughed.
She looked at her friend's funnel cake. The tasty treat looked appetizing. "I see, same here. And I felt like getting out because it looked so nice," she said. "I was hoping I would meet a friend here so I guess I got lucky." She smiled at Reese after she said this. She took a drink of her coke and then popped another cheese curd into her mouth. The fair food was always better, she thought. No matter what, it always was.
Rosalie watched as her friend obeyed her command and finally sat down next to her. "Thank you," she replied and laughed along with Reese. It felt good to be laughing and giggling and having a good time with a friend. That was the great part about coming to the boardwalk and snacking on fair foods and watching all the other people, especially the funny tourists, walk around. She glanced back at the boy who sat bored-faced behind the counter where the two had gotten their snacks. "I know! I felt so bad for him sitting and working back there on such a nice day like this," she agreed observing him as he handed a young woman her food. Rose turned her attention back to Reese then as she said, "Yeah, we don't have to entertain him but we could find someone else to. Or it could be fun to just do it ourselves..." She smiled at her and shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know, we could sit here too." She peered over her shoulder again to see what the poor teenager was up to. He didn't look like he was very excited to be there. Maybe all he needed was a pick-me-up.

Reese laughed as she glanced around again at the many California girls. Some said they were the prettiest in the world...Mostly because they were all carbon copies of one another. Reese hated the idea of being someone's copy. She considered herself to be an original, seeing as how her hair was completely natural bright blonde, and most of the Cali girls were simply copying her. "You're lucky your hair's so dark. I wish I could pull off something a little less bright. But alas, it would not look too great," Reese sighed and took a bite out of her funnel cake while eyeing Rose's cheese curds. She knew that she should have bought some. The smell of cheese was incredibly alluring.
When Rose offered Reese some cheese curds, Reese's face lit up. She pulled one out of the little container they were in and took a nibble. She would enjoy this slowly...they were good that way. The only thing missing was a little dab of ranch dressing, but Reese could still appreciate the flavor without it. She gave a nod to Rose and then swallowed, a smile now planted upon her lips. "You're right. I think I'm in love," Reese replied with a nod. She then grabbed her funnel cake and held it up towards Rose. Now it was her friend's turn to take a try of her food. "Care to dive into a funnel cake madam?" Reese giggled.
"You definitely got lucky," Reese replied with a nod. "I think that if I didn't have a feeling that I was going to meet up with someone fun, then I wouldn't have come here." Reese glanced around. Rose really was the only person that she really knew out on the boardwalk that day. It was odd; most teens would be out and about there, but she guessed that a lof of her other friends were up to random stuff. Rose was one of the best of the best of Reese's friends, so she didn't mind meeting up with her in the least.
Reese's blue eyes darted back to the kid behind the counter. He really did look bored. Working was not something to be wasting your time doing on a good day like this. Reese was almost about to tell him to just quit his job and get a life, but that would do nothing for his cheerfulness. She glanced back at Rose as she spoke and then at the kid again. Reese hoped he wouldn't notice their staring; that would be truly embarrasing. "I don't think he'd appreciate us rushing over there and trying to cheer him up. He looks like any kind of interaction would drive him crazy 'cause he's stuck back there." Reese shrugged and glanced back at Rose. There had to be something to do other than stare at this random kid and eat.
